A few things to know
The Social Network Analysis was completed in Spring of 2023. 80 organizations deeply involved in Southern forest markets work with Keeping Forests were invited to participate, and 68 responded — an 85% response rate. It captured 1,004 relationships with almost no outliers, a network density of 22%, and roughly 14 relationships per partner — an extremely dense and connected network.
The full network map shows each organization as a circle (node). The lines among the nodes represent all relationships reported by respondents — they do not necessarily represent resource sharing. Nodes are colored by sector, and the size of a node shows which organizations have the greatest number of partners.
Respondents noted the activities they took part in with each partner:
Convening — co-hosting or attending events, inviting others, and connecting partners.
Innovating — creating opportunities for problem identification and idea generation.
Scaling — successfully piloting projects that are replicable across the region.
Respondents also noted the degree of collaboration within each relationship, from lightest to deepest:
Awareness — we're aware of who this organization is and what it does.
Communication — communication that has added value (an email exchange, a conversation, updates).
Coordination — we've intentionally aligned strategies, projects, or activities to create mutual benefit.
Leveraged — a shared goal; activities are mostly independent but interdependent when leveraging each other's resources to reach it.
Integration / Transformation — a shared goal we defined together, developing solutions to a problem too complex for any single organization or sector to solve alone.
Each participating organization received an organizational report that detailed their role in the network. A version of these reports can be found under the Evaluate the network tab.
